Herbicide Information for Smith Mountain Lake's Aquatic Vegetation Treatment Program
Swimming and Fishing are permissable with all of the herbicides used for this program.
The herbicides utilized do not harm fish.
Note: Systemic herbicides include a water restriction for irrigation purposes only. No irrigation should be done with water within the area treated for 10 days after each treatment. Residents living within the area have been notified of the expected treatment. If you live within this area and have not received a letter, please contact our office for additional information.

NOTICE
Do NOT Attempt to Treat or Remove Aquatic Nuisance Vegetation Yourself!
- Aquatic nusiance vegetation should only be treated by a professional, licensed with the State of Virginia, for aquatic herbicide application
- Herbicides which are available to all consumers harm native vegetation as well as nuisance vegetation - this is hazardous to the Lake's ecosystem.
- Herbicide treatments not done by a professional may result in a fish kill and could result in criminal charges.
